Ice Cream in Joplin

Ice Cream in Joplin

Ice cream is one of the great equalizers. Nearly every American has experienced the feeling of pure joy that the simple act of eating ice cream can bring. As adults, with each lick of this refreshing and creamy treat, years melt away from our chronological ages. By the time our tongue reaches for the last taste that has pooled in the bottom of the crunchy cone, we are all age seven again.

Eating ice cream evokes the inner child in all of us, transporting us back to a time when we were carefree, when things like “bills” or “diets” hadn’t yet entered our vocabulary, and we enjoyed ice cream with abandon.

And when we eat ice cream in the happy-go-lucky days of summertime, that nostalgic feeling intensifies. We welcome it into our lives as a yearly ritual, going hand-in-hand with other seasonal activities like going to baseball games, visiting the county fair, or floating down the creek. When the blaring sun and sticky air surround us, we turn to ice cream to bring us instant and delicious relief.

America’s passion for ice cream is so strong that we even celebrate a day in its honor. National Ice Cream Day is held on the third Sunday of July every year, smack dab in the middle of the scorching days of summer.

This year, if my husband doesn’t produce his heavenly homemade vanilla ice cream on National Ice Cream Day, I can rest assured knowing that there are several Joplin area parlors where we can find ice cream with that high-quality, home-churned goodness. So can you; just click on the highlighted links to read blog posts about each location.

Caroline’s – 1027 South Main Street, Joplin

An old-fashioned ice cream parlor in Joplin’s downtown district, Caroline’s also serves premium chocolates, candies, and gourmet coffee. Try the Tizzy Lizzy, a brilliant confectionery creation, along with your ice cream – or crumble it on top and eat it all at once!

All Aboard Ice Cream – 102 Castle Drive, Joplin

All Aboard is more than an ice cream parlor – it’s an attraction. This mini amusement complex features a building that houses a kitchen and ice cream shop, an outdoor picnic and play area for the kids, and a retired postal car from the Kansas City Railroad. Whether it’s inside the rail car or outside in the fresh air, you can enjoy old-fashioned ice cream as well as made-to-order hamburgers here.

SuperTam on 66 – 221 West Main Street, Carterville

It’s no surprise that the Superman flavor is the most popular one at this superhero-themed ice cream parlor. Owner Larry Tamminen has filled this little space on historic Route 66 with his vast collection of superhero memorabilia, attracting a mix of Superman fans, Mother Road travelers, and ice cream lovers to his unique attraction in Carterville, just north of Joplin.
