Fresh Blackberries at Berry King Farm

Fresh Blackberries at Berry King Farm

Today was a picture perfect day for picking blackberries.  The sky was bright blue and the temperature was in the low ’80s, so we headed to Berry King Farm.

Located south of Joplin on Eland Road, there was a large “Open” banner by the Berry King Farm sign, making it easy to locate.

We parked in a gravel lot and walked to a small building located near rows of blackberry vines. We picked up our buckets and then selected an aisle from which to pick.  Many of the blackberries were so ripe and juicy that they just fell off the vine and hit the ground (my daughter enjoyed squishing those with her shoes).

Of course, we had to sample some as we were picking and they were so sweet and juicy. What makes them even more enjoyable is knowing that they are grown without the use of any pesticides.

Sweet, juicy AND natural. Ah…

Our hands turned purple from the juices, but they had wet wipes in the building that we used to clean our hands when we went to check out.

The price of all this messy berry-picking fun is $3.50/pound. For those who just want to enjoy fresh blackberries without the hassle, the farm sells already-picked berries for $4.50/pound.

We had a great experience at Berry King Farm, and we look forward to returning next summer.

  1. When will you be open to come and pick berries the week of July 6th?

    • Since I’m not affiliated with Berry King Farm, I don’t know which hours it will be open this week. Here is the direct number to the farm: (417) 624-1539.
