Easy Truffles

Easy Truffles

Every time I make these truffles, I achieve hero status in my household. They are so easy to make – but I don’t tell my family that because I enjoy having them think that I’m a confectionery genius.

A handful of ingredients (including Oreos!) combine to produce these rich, decadent truffles. While the ingredients are simple, definitely plan to set aside some time to make them because there is a lot of chilling time involved.

Here are some tips for this recipe:

The cream cheese combines best when it is at room temperature, but I almost always forget to bring it to the desired temperature before I start making the recipe, so I microwave it for 45 seconds to one minute instead and then combine it with the Oreos.

I find that using a small melon baller works great for spooning out the Oreo/cream cheese mixture because it makes a nice, uniform shape and is easy to remove from the scoop.

If the dipping chocolate gets a bit thick between batches, add a touch more canola oil, heat for 30 seconds, then stir. This will thin out the chocolate enough to make it easy to work with again.

Make sure there is enough room for several cookie sheets in your refrigerator or freezer before starting. Better yet, make these on a cold day when you can put the cookie sheets outside to chill.

Get creative decorating the truffles! In the past, I have melted some white chocolate (with a touch of canola oil), placed it in a small ziploc bag, cut off the corner tip of the bag, and then drizzled it back and forth over the truffles to make a pretty pattern. This year, I used red, white and green sprinkles to decorate the truffles for Christmas gifts.

So impress your friends and family with these truffles – they don’t need to know that the ganache center of these truffles is actually made from Oreos!
